Dr. Yasser E. Shahein is a professor of Biochemistry at the National Research Centre. In 2002, he had received his Ph.D in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from Cordoba University, Spain then he joined Toronto University, Canada as a post doctor scientist till 2004. His area of research is focused on studying the transcriptome of hard ticks as they second only to mosquitoes as vectors of human disease, and the most important vector of pathogens of domestic and wild animals. Dr Shahein has enhanced the scientific databases with publications in tick biology and GenBank accession numbers. He was awarded several scientific prizes such as the NRC encouragement award in Biotechnology in 2008, the Egyptian state incentive award in 2010 in biological sciences and the award of Misr elkheir foundation for scientific publications in 2012.
